THE HERITAGE PROJECT

The project investigates how to use my heritage to design for longevity.
Working with nature elements from the Danish island Mors, workwear details, the monochrome colour palette and controlled chaos aesthetic from artist Erik Heides home, as well as abstract sculpturing.
The integration and combination of these elements creating a silhouette and aesthetic which combines the complexity with the wearable and encourage a more durable relationship to clothing, and speaks to the intellectual aesthete.

INSPIRATION

  1. ERIK HEIDE

Mors based artist Erik Heide has an uncompromising aesthetic. In his work as a sculptor, as well as in the couples personal decor and clothing style, the inspiration comes from the organic lines, the rawness, the quietness and the honesty of the islands nature, always in a monochrome and “non-disturbing” color scale.

2. NATURE

The nature of the North Coast of the island was shaped during the Ice Age. The area consists of the calming hills with beautiful layers of moraine and dark volcanic ashes, and from the hill tops you see how the Fjord shapes around it.

3. WORKWEAR

With a dad and a grandad being proud carpenters, the workshop. tools and gears of the craft fascinates me. The workwear overall, the strong cap seams, as well as the functional layers of clothing became a fundament inspiration for the collection.

SHAPE AND SILHOUETTE STUDY

Translating the inspiration material into sculptures in stones and plastic material a new idiom was created.

All silhouettes have been build, like sculptures, in paper 1:1, deconstructed and made into traditional paper patterns and toile.

This technique is inspired by Shingo Sato’s TR technique. But in this project the process is turned around, creating styles with authentic folds and volumes.
